Steam Excursion for April 21 and 22, 2012

Ride Behind a 1927 Santa Fe Steam Locomotive to

 San Bernardino Railroad Days, April 21 & 22, 2012

  

On April 21st and 22nd, 2012, a steam powered excursion train will be operated to San Bernardino Railroad Days, sponsored by the San Bernardino History & Railroad Museum. The steam special will be operated from Los Angeles to San Bernardino on Saturday April 21st, departing at 10:00 am, over the Metrolink San Gabriel Subdivision. The train will return Sunday April 22nd, departing at 3:00 pm, from San Bernardino.

Train consists of 6 private passenger cars pulled by the 1927 AT&SF Steam Locomotive 3751:

1. "Tioga Pass," CN business car, built in 1959
2. "Silver Splendor," CB&Q dome-diner-lounge car No. 4735, built in 1956
3. "Overland Trail," SP club lounge car No. 2981, built in 1949
4. A Baggage Car (standing-room-only by four gated open doors; great for picture taking)
5. "Amber Trail," UP chair car No. 5430, built in 1950
6. An Amfleet chair car

A diesel will provide H.E.P. (Head End Power) behind former Santa Fe Steam Locomotive 3751.  More private cars may be added.

 

Ticket prices are:

• First Class is $115 for the business car "Tioga Pass," and in the dome section of dome-diner-lounge car "Silver Splendor".  
• Regular Class is $105 for the lower level of the "Silver Splendor",  the "Overland Trail" and the Baggage Car.  
• Coach Class is $80 for the "Amber Trail" and the Amfleet chair car.

San Bernardino Railroad Days:  The San Bernardino History & Railroad Museum, the San Bernardino Historical & Pioneer Society, the BNSF, and the City of San Bernardino will host San Bernardino Railroad Days April 21st and 22nd at the historic Santa Fe San Bernardino Depot, at 1170 W. Third Street.  Railroad displays will include new BNSF locomotives, passenger cars, and the 1927 Santa Fe Steam Locomotive No. 3751. There will also be historic fire apparatus, antique vehicles, model railroads displays and  BNSF Operation Lifesaver.  

ALL SALES ARE FINAL, NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES.

• There are no discounted or half fares.
• Tickets will be sold on first come first served basis.
• Due to the historic nature of the private passenger cars, there will be no disabled or wheelchair accommodations.
• All passengers must be ambulatory, and be capable of climbing narrow, steep stairs on the historic passenger equipment.
• Certified service animals will be permitted, by advance notice only. 
• There is no luggage service.
• No strollers permitted.
• Passengers will not be permitted to bring or consume their own alcoholic beverages.
• No beverage coolers will be allowed on the train.  Snacks and beverages will be available on the train.

Tickets are expected to sell out quickly.  If you order first class tickets, and first class tickets are sold out, when your ticket request is received, an equal number of regular or coach fare tickets will be sent,  with difference in fare returned to you.  Please indicate second and third choice of seats in case your first choice is sold out.   Otherwise we will assign you to available accommodations.

All tickets include a one-way Metrolink fare on the Metrolink San Bernardino Line, so that passengers can get to/from Los Angeles and San Bernardino.  The steam special will operate only one way, on each day, with no intermediate stops to pickup or discharge passengers.
